Numbers from one to ten are specific words (except for nine, gúu = less), namely
sgwáansang sdáng hlgúnahl stansang tléihl tla’únhl jugwa sdáansaangaa tláahl sgwáansang gúu tláahl | One two three four five six seven eight nine (10 one less) ten | * ** ** * ** ** ** ** * ** ** ** ** ** ** * ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** * **** ** **** |
In compound numbers, the tláahl (ten) is put first, then the word wáak (plus), then the digit
11 – tláahl wáak sgwáansang, eg. ten plus one
12 – tláahl wáak sdáng, eg. ten plus two
13 – tláahl wáak hlgúnahl
14 – tláahl wáak stánsang
15 – tláahl wáak tléihl
16 – tláahl wáak tla’únhl
17 – tláahl wáak jugwaa
18 – tláahl wáak sdáansaangaa
19 – tláahl wáak tláahl sgwáansang gúu
Tens are formed alternatively by juxtaposing tlaalee (the word for 10) and its multiplier digit, and by multiplying lagwa (the word for 20).
20 – lagwa uu sgwáansang, eg. twenty times one
30 – tlaalee hlgúnahl, eg. ten times three
40 – lagwa uu sdáng, eg. 20 times 2
50 – tlaalee tléihl, eg. 10 times 5
60 – lagwa uu hlgúnahl
70 – tlaalee jugwaa
80 – lagwa uu sdáansaangaa
90 – tlaalee tláahl sgwáansang gúu
Hundreds are formed by multiplication of lagwa (the number 20) and tláahl (10)
100 – lagwa uu tléihl, eg. twenty times five
200 – lagwa uu tláahl, eg. twenty times ten
300 – lagwa uu tláahl wáak lagwa uu tléihl, eg. 20 times 10 plus 20 times 5
400 – lagwa uu tlaalee sdáng, eg. 20 times 10 times 2
500 – lagwa uu tlaalee sdáng wáak lagwa uu tléihl, (eg. 20*10*2 + 20*5)
600 – lagwa uu tlaalee hlgúnahl
700 – lagwa uu tlaalee hlgúnahl wáak lagwa uu tléihl
800 – lagwa uu tlaalee sdáansaangaa
900 – lagwa uu tlaalee sdáansaangaa wáak lagwa uu tléihl, (800 + 20*5)
Thousands are formed by setting the multiplier wáak, after the words for one thousand, except for the thousand itself.
1,000 – lagwa uu tlaalee tléihl, eg. twenty times ten times five
2,000 – lagwa uu tlaalee tléihl wáak sdáng (20*10*5*+2)
3,000 – lagwa uu tlaalee tléihl wáak hlgúnahl (20*10*5*+3)
4,000 – lagwa uu tlaalee tléihl wáak stánsang (20*10*5*+4)
2011 – laagwa tlaalaay sdáng wáak tlaahl wáak sg̱waansang
Millions are formed the same way as the thousands.
one million – lagwa uu tlaalee kwan, literally means "more than can be counted."
Billions are formed similarly, setting the multiplier after the word million. eg. one million times one thousand.
one billion – lagwa uu tlaalee kwan wáak lagwa uu tlaalee tléihl
